Salt Secrets

This article is about the food that we taste contains a lot more salt than what we realize and it will cause harm to our health. We can’t even taste the salt sometimes as more than 75 percent of the salt we eat, is hidden. -omg- Not even the adults, salt is also starting to affect kids.

Salt is made up of 2 basic components, sodium and chlorine. It’s the sodium that cause the troubles as we only need about 500 milligrams of sodium to keep our muscles working and our nerves to send messages throughout the body. Too much sodium causes the heart to work extra hard to produce more blood and this leads to a rise in blood pressure, resulting heart diseases.

This article is very useful to me as i have learnt much information about how salt that we use in daily lives could actually affects us so much. It also tells us about what other reasons that can lead to heart diseases for example, eating junk food and drinking soft drinks. This article helps me to know more about what is hypertension.  And, it contains information about obesity. -that's what we, the girls, cares most- woohoo. or is it only me? opps. Cut down on salt, it harms! and of course junk food and fast food. =)

Comments:
The website that you have chosen actually has a Question Sheet at the bottom that would be very very helpful for writing your article review. I have copy and pasted at the bottom. How, if you can answer SOME [no need all] of the questions like "What is hypertension?" , "Identify five ways you and your family might reduce your intake of salt in foods." and "
What foods have the most sodium?", you would have yourself a FANTASTIC article review

Fair effort for the first time. Expect better next time.

Question Sheet: Salt Secrets

SCIENCE

Before reading:

What is salt and where does it come from?
List at least three uses for salt.
Many foods contain salt. Some are even described as low-salt foods. Is the salt in our diets a good thing, a bad thing or neither?

During reading:

What type of salt “concerns scientists most?”
What are the ingredients in salt?
In our bodies, what is sodium good for?
Name three health problems that too much sodium (or salt) can pose?
What is hypertension?
Can kids get high blood pressure?
After reading:
Identify five ways you and your family might reduce your intake of salt in foods.
What foods have the most sodium?
One major concern about sodium in our foods is its potential contribution to high blood pressure. Why do you think high blood pressure is dangerous? (Hint: What is the pressure acting upon?)
