Website:http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/40713/title/Winter_birds_shift_north_ Date of publication: Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 Author: Susan Milius Source: Science News The article is about birds that needs to travel north to spend their winter are spending their winters farther north than they did 40 years ago and overall, the wintering grounds of the birds have shifted an average of 56 kilometers (35 miles) north in cold months. One of the reasons behind why the birds are traveling a longer distance could be due to the climate change or global warming. An example of one of the many species of bird is the Woodland birds, which has moved the most of an average distance of more than 113 kilometers towards the north. Another reason could be due to that trees are being cut down, which in the end, forces the birds to have no choice but to travel further to find their wintering grounds. I find that the article contains some very important information. One of these important is that it shows that global warming is not something of the future but instead, global warming is something that is happen here and now, which needs our attention. Also, the cutting down of trees tell us it maybe the reason why global warming is happening as with more trees cut down there will be lesser trees to absorb the carbon dioxide. Lastly, the trees that are being cut down may contain species of animal that are yet to be discovered, thus driving them in to extinction before them are named .
