Gamma-Ray Wipe-Out
This article talks about gamma-ray burst, it is one of the most powerful explosion in the universe since the big bang. Gamma rays were discovered in the 1960s where during the cold war, the US military sent up satellites to detect signs of illegal nuclear testing by the Soviet Union and unexpectedly detected great explosions of gamma-ray photons coming from space.
It is said that this gamma rays was the cause of triggering the ice age 440 millions year ago which cause the extinction of species. This gamma rays may hit the Earth anytime, no matter if it's tomorrow or even millions of years later, and worst of all, we can't stop it from happening.
After reading this article, I get to know about how impressive science is, as it can find things happening 440 MILLIONS ago. It is also interesting to find out how we became what we are now, without those gamma ray burst that hit the Earth, maybe Earth will still be submerged in water. With such interesting facts, it makes science a much more interesting topic.
