Some people have gray hair in their early 20's or 30's, even some teenagers do get them; this is called premature graying.

So, what causes premature graying?

Basically there are 3 reason for our hair turning gray.

Firstly, it could be caused by heredity.
*heredity: The genetic transmission of characteristics from parent to offspring.

Secondly, hair is initially white. The cells in our hair follicles called “Melanocytes” generate pigments, the main one being Melanin. This gives our hair its “Color”. In general, the more melanin present, the darker the hair color; the less melanin, the lighter the hair color. When these Melanocytes stop producing the pigment, the result is a transparent hair. The transparent hair against your healthier darker hair gives the appearance of gray hair. (In reality the hair is not gray but transparent)
Scientists have proved that a failure of melanocyte stem cells (MSC) to maintain the production of melanocytes could cause the graying of hair.

Lastly, it could be caused by stress or prolonged illness!

If the hair had already turned gray, it's impossible to turn it back again, BUT there are ways to prevent them! It is said that there are products out there that help to triggers Melanocytes which helps overcome the tendency to produce less melanin as body pigments when one have gray hair by increasing the body’s ability to produce melanin pigments!

After reading the article, i've learnt that gray hair are not always related to one's age and although we can't turn grown out gray hair back, there are still ways to prevent gray hairs, so it isn't that hopeless or depressing after all. Stay healthy and don't get too stressed up people!
